memorials and monuments!
Hello! It is now early early early thursday morning! infact it is 12:01 here in D.C and we are sitting in our warm and cozy hotel room! AHHHHH you have no idea how good it feels to be in here! Today was a tour day where we visited the Lincoln memorial which was closed off since monday due to the concert, and the Jefferson memorial and also a trip around capital hill, the supreme court, and the cannon building where the representatives meet. Overall it was a pretty smooth day the sun was out! It didnt do much because it was still in the low 20's throughout the day! We witnessed history and it feels amazing! Mostly everyones conversations today were about Tuesdays activities and how amazing the experience was even though we nearly froze to death! I'm not going to lie some of us got teary eyed during obama's speech including some very tough men uhmm reinhart cough cough! Really the energy of the crowd and the words of our new leader truly made the moment feel surreal in a way. With every word that he read the army of little american flags would wave and the crowd just kept getting louder and louder. Everyone and i mean Everyone had a smile on their face it no longer mattered how cold it was because we were all just thrilled to be a part of history and sharing that with millions of others surrounding the capital that day.
That same day getting back to the hotel was the worst! the subway was being protected by the national gaurd because it was so crowded down in the terminals that some people were being pushed down on the tracks. There were thousands waiting that day and it litterally took us about 2 hours to get to our hotel which is only 2 miles away from the national mall. I know you're thinking why wouldn't we just walk if its so close but you have to realize that we had woken up at 5:30 that day and we were freezing cold and when you mix that all together it doesn't help! Being on the subway is much better, there's a massive crowd that draws in body heat and No walking!! lol
